Stella is many things. As was evident early, she is a force to be reckoned with. She is inquisitive. She is intelligent. She is hilarious. More than anything else, Stella is her aptly given middle name: Stella is joy.

Aimee & Mishi, I just wanted to let you know that I continue to think of you both and sweet Stella daily. I recently ordered a Stella Star and I can't wait to receive it in the mail :) Today I signed up for an event called Mud Hero www.mudhero.com it looks like so much fun! As I looked into this event further I found out that the event is put on to raise money for charities involved with cancer. When I noticed that Camp Oochigeas was one of the charities, I quickly knew which organization I will raise money for and I was also quickly reminded of who I will be running through an intense, muddy, obstacle course for.....Sweet Stella "xox" I might even where my Star when I do it...I wouldn't want to get it full of mud but I know Stella would love it :)

Happy Birthday to you too, Mishi! I hope you've been spoiled rotten today. I hope the memories of Stella's giggles and smiles help to ease the hurt.
Love and hugs

I came across your blog today. I am so terribly sorry for the loss of your beautiful little girl. You are an amazing family, full of so much love, and your beautiful Stella was fortunate enough to be a part of that. Her beautiful, strong spirit lives on, and I have to say that she was blessed to have such wonderful parents, just as you were all very blessed to have known and loved, and been mommy to such a wonderful, beautiful soul. Sending you so much love, and keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. XoXo

I first heard about Stella from a friend of the family not long after she was diagnosed. Your family’s situation struck me so deeply. There is only a month difference in age between Stella and my son. All too vividly I could understand the milestones she was reaching and then imagine the agony you all faced as those milestones melted away. I followed the blogs and was so inspired by all of you but especially by Stella.
Last fall I had the privilege to meet Heather, Aimee, Mishi and of course Stella when they came to our farm to ride a horse. It was sunny and warm and I was beyond ecstatic that I could do something for all of you. Stella met Joe, one of our school horses, and she laughed! My heart almost burst. A number of my co-workers had the opportunity to meet Stella as well. We speak of you all often.
We run a therapeutic riding program and we frequently get contacted by people who want to donate horses to us. Unfortunately, on most occasions, despite the best intentions of the horse owners the animals turn out to be too old, too sore or have too many health/training issues for us to use them in the program. In February we were informed of a “fantastic” potential horse for the program. We listened politely to the description of this mare, she sounded pretty darn good. Then came the clincher….her name is Stella.
I took it as a sign. We went to see the horse. Not only is she absolutely stunning, a fantastic age, and wonderfully trained but she has the most amazing mind! The catch was that she had never left her home and had never been in a horse trailer (she’s now 11 years old and quite large). It took us 2 hours to convince her that she wanted to get into our horse trailer and come home with us. She was a little bit stubborn, a little bit strong willed, tested our creativity, problem solving skills and resolve but when she decided to come along with us she was truly wise beyond her years and has dealt with every new challenge with such bravery and grace. Our equine Stella has brought me more moments of sheer joy in this past week then I’ve truly experienced in a long time. I’m beyond excited to see how much joy she brings to the faces of all the therapeutic riding program participants that get to work with her in the future.
Please understand that it isn’t my intention to compare your beautiful daughter to a horse (no matter how truly amazing that horse may be). But I think life sends us little hints to keep us moving in the right direction and to help us find new and wonderful connections. Every time I look at my Stella, I think of your Stella. How she impacted my life and in essence how that connection will now positively impact the lives of so many riders with special needs.
Thank you Stella! Thank you Mishi, Aimee, Heather and family.
